What to do if you’re a victim of fraud

It’s important to report fraud as soon as possible to limit the unauthorised transactions on your card or account – and minimise the time it takes to correct your credit rating.

If you find out you’ve been a victim of fraud, you should take these steps straight away.

  • Place a fraud alert on your credit file by calling a credit rating agency like Experian on +44 8444 818000 or Equifax on +44 8700 100583.
  • Close any accounts associated with the fraudulent activity.
  • Report the crime to the police.
